Default Dialer cannot hear caller

I have set up voxalot basic, registered my 7404VGPM, and dialed my voxalot number through sipbroker using my mobile. The call goes through and I can hear my partner reply but she cannot hear me. What do I need to do to rectify the problem?

Normally a SIP device will give it's public IP address as the RTP contact address. If the 7404VGPM is on a local network then it may be sending it's LAN IP address as the RTP contact address.

You can try placing the 7404VGPM directly on a public IP address, or use a stun server, or there may be a setting in the 7404VGPM where you can manually enter the public IP address.

Thanks for your reply.

I regret to say that I'm totally in the dark with this. Well before joining voxalot I set up a static address in Windows Network Connections. Would that have any bearing on my problem?

Also, a number of questions:-

1. How do I find out whether the router is sending it's LAN IP?
2. How do you place the router on a public IP address?
3. How do you use a stun server?

Reading a thread on another website, it appears that using a stun server solved a problem. However, I have not got a clue how to set it up. Hope you can help.

1. Use an Ethernet hub (not a switch) and a packet monitoring program such as Wireshark. Look in the message body of a SIP/SDP packet sent by the 7404VGPM. Look for a line called "Connection Information", it should contain your public IP address.
2. You might ask your ISP for assistance.
3. If there is an entry space in your 7404VGPM for a stun server fill in the blank with: stun.voxalot.com

If you were to publish the menu of options which are offered in your 7404VGPM settings menu someone here may be able to recommend settings to make it work better.

Following your suggestions, I have found out that:-

1. The 7404VGPM does not support stun server
2. The 7404VGPM is already on public IP address

So I decided to test the connection again and much to my surprise I found that it works!

Thank you again for your response as it made me search for relevant information.

I had a look at the manual for the 7404VGPM. It's an interesting and unusual device. Apparently it is a DSL modem, router, and VoIP unit with VPN capability, all in one. Being a DSL modem, I guess the makers figure it can never be behind NAT, so they don't offer a stun option.
