UTStarcom GF210 Will not register to Voxalot
Hello, My GF210 will not register to Voxalot . Any Ideas? Does Voxalot still allow multiple registrations? I am trying to use the free account.
Thanks Mark update BTW I have tried using Stun Servers including stun01.sipphone.com with no luck. I could probably do port forwarding but that defeats the purpose of a WiFi phone when I go to hot spots. I have used this phone on other services, and this is my second or third attempt to return to Voxalot, but this is a big hang up (pun intended) Last edited by MarkosJal; 02-11-2009 at 04:35 AM. In order to learn what's wrong you are probably going to have to capture and read the SIP messages exchanged between your phone and Voxalot during a registration attempt. You can do that using Wireshark and an Ethernet hub inserted at some appropriate point in your LAN. It should also be possible to capture the packets over the air via WiFi.

need to know first
the most simple part of my question remains unanswered. Can I do multiple registrations on the same voxalot free account?

As boatman notes above it is likely that something else is happening and needs to be tracked. The fact that it doesn't seem to register does not mean that VoXalot is not letting it register... |

Even with Port forwarding, I see nothing coming back from Voxalot. I am not a beginner here, I am more of an advanced user than most here. I have done my homework!
It appears to me that either us.voxalot.com is not resolving from opendns or that the voxalot server is not responding, or possibly that response is not making it back to my IP. This last possibility is strange however as I have a Linksys registered and working, and it even uses a different local SIP port. I made this determination already with Wireshark. It seems that there is simply no response from Voxalot, when the UTStarcxom GF210 tries to register. |

MarkosJal,
You should examine the SIP registration request packet sent by the UTStarcxom GF210. Make sure the SIP portion of the packet does not contain any LAN IP address. If possible, please post a copy of the packet here; highlight the packet in Wireshark, then go to the Packet Details window and highlight "Session Initiation Protocol", then right-click and select Copy --> Bytes (Printable Text Only). A copy of the registration packet should look similar to the one below. Code:
REGISTER sip:us.voxalot.com SIP/2.0 Via: SIP/2.0/UDP 98.99.100.101:50339;rport;branch=z9hG4bKjmraragy Max-Forwards: 70 To: <sip:123456@us.voxalot.com> From: <sip:123456@us.voxalot.com>;tag=cmikw Call-ID: jvrlghwdtktxqum@localhost CSeq: 451 REGISTER Contact: <sip:123456@98.99.100.101:50339;transport=udp>;expires=3600 Allow: INVITE,ACK,BYE,CANCEL,OPTIONS,PRACK,REFER,NOTIFY,SUBSCRIBE,INFO,MESSAGE User-Agent: Twinkle/1.3.1 Content-Length: 0 Last edited by boatman; 02-14-2009 at 09:02 PM. |

I did as you assked, but I also took the time to ensure that 5060 was forwarded to the WiFi Phone and here is what the phone sent, and again no response from Voxalot server
I have used this with a variety of other SIP proxies and never had this problem , except with Voxalot. I have never had to forward ports only toggling the Stun on/off sometimes on some networks. I think there may be something in the formation of the invite that possibly Voxalot does not understand? All looks normal to me. No matter the network, it does not register to Voxalot. REGISTER sip:us.voxalot.com SIP/2.0 Via: SIP/2.0/UDP 200.56.193.12:5060;branch=z9hG4bK655940522;rport From: "Display Name" <sip:214880@us.voxalot.com>;tag=1233450794 To: "Display Name" <sip:214880@us.voxalot.com> Call-ID: 73877726@200.56.193.12 CSeq: 321 REGISTER Contact: <sip:214880@200.56.193.12:5060> Max-Forwards: 70 User-Agent: UTSTARCOM GF210/Device ID-R600 Expires: 60 Content-Length: 0 |

Well, I have no idea what's preventing SIP registration. I don't know about Voxalot's proxies, but some proxies will stop responding to a user agent if SIP registration requests are sent too frequently. Including registration attempts and NAT keep alive packets, how many SIP packets per minute are being sent to Voxalot from your UTSTARCOM GF210 and any other user agents you may have which use the same Voxalot user ID?
Edit: While using the Terminal Capabilities function of Twinkle to look for problems, I noticed that your user agent returned rport 1024, when I was using 5060. The rport is found in the Via header of SIP responses, and is supposed to show the port number of the return address of a received SIP packet. I don't know what would cause an incorrect rport response, or if it could be related to the non-registration issue. Last edited by boatman; 02-17-2009 at 03:28 AM. |

rport should be based on what the UA sends. I see no such rport in thye registration
As for this twinkle business I have no idea what that is . Were you looking at packets to/from voxalot? If this was a packet FROM voxalot that would be indicative of the problem. |
