How to embed Virtual Toll Free into Gmail signature
Thanks to a lot of help from a Voxalot user called Darin, I now have a 'Click here to call us for free' link in my Gmail signature. If you are a Firefox user, here is what you do:
Step 1: Download and install the Firefox extension (or add-on) called Better Gmail (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4866). Once installed and Firefox restarted, go to Tools > Add-ons. Highlight the Better Gmail add-on, click on Options > Compose, tick Signature Settings: Float/HTML/No dashes, click OK. Sign out of Gmail and sign back in. Step 2: In Gmail Settings, below your signature box, there should be 3 tick boxes. Tick Allow HTML in Signature. You can tick the other two boxes if you want to get rid of the dashes and/or want to place your signature above a quoted response. Now save your changes. If the Save Changes button is greyed out, it does not matter. At this point, make sure you sign out of Gmail (not just refresh/reload) and sign back in. You can now put the Popup HTML provided by Voxalot into your Gmail signature and it should show up correctly as a link saying 'Click here to call us for free'. Send yourself an email to test if it is working OK. Btw, don't forget to enable the Virtual Toll Free function in Voxalot. Last edited by ozimarco; 07-17-2007 at 12:46 PM. Reason: forgot a word |

Those of you who have been using the 'Click here to call us for free' HTML line in your Gmail signatures using the above procedure will have found that the script no longer works with the new version of Gmail, commonly known as Gmail 2.0.
While we are waiting for the author of Better Gmail 2 to restore the presently crippled add-on to its former glory, I managed to get it working again by following the instructions on HTML Signatures for Gmail 2 Hopefully, one day in the not too distant future, Gmail itself will allow HTML signatures. That would make things a lot easier. It's something a lot of people have asked for but the Gmail developers have been slow to react on. Anyway, this should get you by in the meantime. Mark
