Default and Symmetric NAT

I've recently signed up with, which provides U.K. 056 DID's to be directed to a SIP URI, but was not able to get any audio incoming or outgoing (phone would ring ok, and unanswered calls would go to voice mail as expected).

After trying several different things, I turned off Symmetrical NAT and added a STUN server to my device (, and voilĂ*, everything works.

I am still not sure why this affected a specific DID provider, as I am also using and never had to fiddle with this parameter in the past.

Can anyone confirm that the STUN setting I'm using makes any sense, or should I simply dump this provider and go back to Symmetric NAT / no STUN.
