Voip on my mobile

Is using VOIP on my mobile possible?

If the mobile has Wi-fi, then you could hook to any public wi-fi network and use a voip app if the cellphone is powerful enough (say a Pocket PC Phone).

I have a Pocket PC Phone with SJPhone (sjlabs.com) which picks up at any wi-fi spot, and logs into voip networks (FWD specifically but could be any).

most elegant way would be the use of an e/n series nokia (eg. e61) phone with integrated sip client. here you can choose for every call if you want to use sip or normal gsm. even sip over gprs, edge, umts works.

Yes, it is.
If you can read Portuguese check my Orkut community "Voip no Celular Smartphone PDA":
orkut - Login

In general you can do mobile voip in 3 ways:
- callback (triggered by SMS, WAP, ANI or provider application)
- calling a gateway (a regular phone number that will work as a bridge)
- your mobile working as a voip device (itself or a softphone running on it and data sent via WiFi, GPRS, EDGE, etc.)

Some nice links for mobile voip:

Hi !

The second option interest me a lot. I believe you can do this by using an Asterisk server ? If I don't want to have a dedicated PC running, what can I do ?

Is it possible to do this with Pbxes.org ?

Thanks

Yes. And Yes.
Besides that you can do this with some voip providers that offer gateway numbers in your city (webacall for instance has some around the world), with some home ATA that has FXO port and accept inbound calls, and with Voxalot as soon as it makes available the "Voxroam" feature.

I have SJPhone and Fring, but both when I make a call, the only way to talk is thru the speakerphone (speaker) and until now I have been unable to make it work. I read somewhere when I did this try/reasearch they were planning to upgrade the software version. Of course I also read this depends on your handset in my case a precious beautiful :) HTC Mogul with Windows Mobile 6. And I alse read somewhere it was an issue of the sound driver this device uses. So I remember at the end I just stopped looking all dissapointed and I am just waiting for some update.
