ATA-186 suddenly no dial tone
 

Hello,

A few days ago my ATA-186 and connected analog phone went 'dead'. I pick up the phone and get NO DIAL TONE. Only silence.

My internal network IP has not changed. My port forwarding has not changed. The analog phone is connected properly to the ATA becuase I can press the ATA's CONFIG button and can hear the configuration menu through the phone. I know the ATA is on the network becuase I can access the ATA config http interface. I just don't get a dialtone.

X-Lite works fine to make calls. But trying to ring my ATA does not work any more.

What on earth could have happend?

You can try checking /replacing RJ11 cable that runs from ATA to phone, also try connecting your phone to your landline to make sure there is dialling tone.

Unfortunatley I don't have a landline to test it on.

But I beleive the Cable to be find as I can access the ATA config menu from the analog phone so I think the connection is fine. I have a feeling it's the ATA.

OK, is your ATA status online, registered etc? If not you wont hear dial tone.
If it is showing status as registered than it might be faulty. Alternatively power if off and re boot it with fresh registration.

Ok, I WAS showing as registered. I DID power cycle (many times) the ATA.

But in the end what fixed it was resaving my information within the ATA.

I have absolutley no idea why this happened.....
