UK Non-Geographical Numbers

For about 6 months now e164.org has stored information about 0870 numbers which could be looked up and the call sent to a geographical number intead automatically.

At the time when I did an import of the information from a website that tracks these numbers I tried to seek permission but all my emails were ignored, however today I received an email asking us to remove these numbers from the database. This is identical to the stuff I did to bypass 13 calling in Australia for cheaper geographical numbers (http://forum.voxalot.com/e164-org-su...00-calls.html).

Long story short if you found this service useful by all by all means feel free to add these numbers back into our site via our web interface: Non-Geographical Search

I missed this thread before

On what grounds was the removal request based? Is the information copyright?

It's daft, as the info has been freely submitted by people who wanted to help others make cheaper phone calls, which is exactly how it would be used here

Instead of being entered by people it looks like this data was extracted from a website as evilbunny said "I did an import of the information from a website", so I guess the issue is related to the source of this data.

Copyright is an interesting thing in todays age, for example, most forums expressly deny being responsible for any postings of their users, but at the same time try and claim copyright over the information entered.

At the end of the day it's easier just to get people to re-enter any numbers they'd like to see in the system then getting into a legal spat over this.

We didn't have permission from the posters or the owner of the website, while every attempt was made the only response we received (6 months later) was a request to remove the information. Again, without consent of those submitting the information or the website it was pointless trying to do anything but take down the requested information, yes it's a pain but that doesn't mean the same posters can't submit the information to both sites however.
