Default UK calls to 0800 numbers

I have voipcheap.com as a provider in my voxalot account.

When calling 0800 numbers (which are free when using PSTN in the UK) voipcheap charge 1c per minute.

I used to have sipgate as a provider too, and they allowed calls to 0800 for free - but we all know that sipgate no longer works.

So, does anyone know a way of calling 0800 numbers for free using voxalot? Something that won't involve my needing to pay someone a subscription?

Well, get an FWD account. Add it in to VoXALOT without registering it.

Then read in their site (FWD) what you have to do to call toll free numbers in various countries. You'll have to work out some sort of DIAL PLAN

Here's the post describing the proper dialing sequence (which others have later confirmed works to dial UK "toll free" numbers):
http://forum.voxalot.com/9549-post9.html

NOTE:
Based upon posts over on the FWD forums, it looks like the FWD outbound gateway (for UK toll free dialing) may be having problems right now. So until FWD gets their gateway working again, this may be a YMMV thing. However, others have used this technique in the past to call UK "toll free" numbers, so we know the dialing sequence (*393 to reach FWD, followed by the FWD dialing sequence for UK toll free) works.

BTW: Don't forget to modify your adapter's "dial plan", so that you can enter the *-key in the 1st position (to start SIP Broker dialing) _AND_ in the 5th position (to start the FWD dialing sequence for UK toll free numbers)...

Apart from dialplan methods with Sipbroker and FWD, another possibility is to use (UK) 02002220700 as a callthrough number for UK and +800 int'l freephone numbers, though perhaps this is more useful when calling from a mobile

Free calls to UK 0800 numbers can be had via SIP compatible providers such as orbtalk & sipgate.

I know they don't work with Voxalot (sorry Voxalot) but if you use Ekiga 0800 numbers really are free.

I have accounts with both orbtalk and sipgate, never paid a penny in credit, and I have just checked by calling an 0800 number

Just realized the Voiptalk and Draytel also support free calling to UK 0800 numbers. They both work well with Voxalot.
I suspect that Orbtalk would also be compatible with Voxalot, but I have never checked it out.

You can certainly make outgoing calls over Sipgate via Voxalot; it's registration that's been blocked.
