Startel??
Hi,
With Betamax trying their hardest to lose my custom with their attitude to voxalot I have been looking for a non-Betamax provider. I came across http://startel.pt/eng/index.html They seem to have a similar business model to Betamax (i.e Euro 10 top up give you free calls, not sure for how long though) Anyone know of them / used them? Obviously sceptical to sign up and hand over my hard earned cash to just anyone! |

StarTel free calls
Viewing the English page, the FAQ says that the free calls are limited to one minute.
http://startel.pt/eng/faq.html See Items 1.6 and 1.7. Not sure what they mean, because I thought I can only register my own number, not destination numbers, and obviously there is no VOIP path to a pure landline number (otherwise, I would call it directly). Their rates are quite reasonable otherwise. Tried to register yesterday, but did not receive a confirmation email yet. |

I think, much like Betamax, that if you don't sign up for the Euro 10 'VIP' service then you only get 1 minute of free calls.
If you purchase the VIP service it doesn't say what the time limits are. I registered no problem, email arrived instantly. Signed up for the free service, haven't paid anything as yet. |

At first I thought they only offered free calls to ENUM numbers - i.e. phone numbers that can be registered as VoIP numbers at e164.org, like the ones Sipgate give out. Then I saw the VIP section and now I'm not so sure. It sure looks like you get free calls. Someone must be daring enough to add credit - go on!! I just lost €10 on Betamax's new product JustVoip, which I now find out doesn't have SIP enabled!
On StarTel I can't find the host name anywhere. The pictures do not download no the XLite Configuration page. Is it just startel.pt? Update: says it's registered now with startel.pt as host. Will now switch back to non-registration mode. Last edited by tomblandford; 03-23-2007 at 05:34 PM. |

Martin, is there a way you can test if sip.startel.pt accepts calls from voxalot?

It seems I can make calls OK through Startel via Voxalot. Have been limited to 1 minute though so far as haven't added credit yet.
