Default Dtmf

Hello,

I am having some problems getting DTMF to work properly for different systems. I have a Grandstream HandyTone 286 ATA. It supports three modes of DTMF:

1- in-audio
2- via RTP (RFC 2833)
3- via SIP INFO

The default is in-audio and it seems to work most of the time. I use G.711 so audio should be OK.

When I call a service via SIP the DTMF are not recognized. For instance sip:7125807050@67.55.158.226 (www.seipmeeting.com).

If I change my settings in my ATA to "via SIP INFO". DTMF works fine calling a sip service. However, my Voxalot Voice Mail breaks, by not accepting my pin.

I also tried with both options selected in the ATA ("in-audio" and "SIP INFO") but Voxalot Voice Mail does not recognize the tones.

I thank you in advance.

I can confirm this - when calling tollfree to TELLME on 1800 555 8355, the only way I can get the DTMF to work is via voipuser.org, it doesn't work via other providers including sipbroker/voxalot. Other services such as UK 0800 work fine. I read another post somewhere and it is a common problem - someone mentioned having to change settings for different numbers, can't voxalot look after this for us on the server - transcoding the DTMF tones so they are compatible if that is the problem?

This problem seems to be worse with some cordless phones.

I find that a corded phone where the duration of the DTMF tones and the time gap between tones can be controlled by the user, as opposed to some newer phone which generates the same short beep for any key that is pressed. Probably about a 0.5 to 1 second duration for a DTMF tone works acceptably well with most end points.

The problem may be due to the DTMF transmission capability the cordless phone to the base set, of the VSPs between Voxalot and the point of termination, and the DTMF decoding sensitivity at the receiving end, particularly with older PBX systems.

Kurun - I suppose a good way to test this would be with one of those keyring type mini DTMF tone generators - if anyone still has one?

I see a very similar (same?) problem with my Linksys SPA2102 - Inband DTMF works for every call I make that requires entering DTMF numbers, except Voxalot voicemail. I have to switch to "auto" for Voxalot, but this setting doesn't work for the other numbers. Would it be possible to look into the Voxalot server's DTMF settings and alter them to make them "compatible" with all the other systems out there?

Something must have changed. I have my ATA configured for RFC2833 (via RTP) and VM works as well as other services.

I would like to thank whoever fix this.

Default Phone Star Key " * "

I noticed calling ATA using FXS port from Mobile and Digital Pbx work fine and all needed key like # and * response very well to ATA and Voxalot.

But any other phone sets like in Hotel, air port..., the only Star key * for dialing the speed dial number of voxalot does not dial out the number. Does it has to do something with phone sets attached to Pbx or phone sets.

Richard,

How do you connect from a Hotel pbx phone to Voxalot? Are you calling one of the local PSTN gateways? Even if you can call a a Voxalot number this way, Voxalot does not have Call-Thru. You will not have a way to jump-off Voxolat by using a speed dial or any other way of outbound calling.

Now, if what you have is a Voxalot number that is registered as a trunk in PBXes and you have created a Call Thru system. Then it is PBXes handling the codes once you get the second dial tone than can be used to place a call via Voxalot. PBXes seems to have reserved * for their own calling features so you can't use them to dial a Voxalot speed dia.
