The ability to dial the *-key is usually controlled by your SIP hardware (or software), and how you have it setup.

For example, LinkSys/Sipura adapters (what I use, so I'm using them just as an example) will let you dial the *-key, but not in the default configuration of the equipment. Instead, such adapters first need their "dial plan" customized, to let the adapter know that you are planning to dial "numbers" that don't conform to the normal telco numbering system (and instead have the *-key in "unusual" places). Once you do that, LinkSys/Sipura adapters have no problems dialing these "weird" *-key dialing sequences. While the details vary, equipment from other companies often has similar "setup issues" that have to be handled (on a one-time "setup" basis).

However, before someone can direct you to info on how to properly setup your VoIP equipment (to allow the needed dialing sequences), you will have to first tell us which VoIP equipment you are using (since you omitted that very important/key info in your post)...

That's a LinkSys/Sipura adapter (and FWIW the same model one I use, so I know that adapter very well). It will very much handle the *-key, as soon as you properly customize your dial-plan to allow it.

I'm assuming you want this to allow "SIP Broker" dialing (codes) via VoXaLot? If so, try adding the following to your SPA-3000's "dial plan":
Code:
*xxx[x*]. |
NOTE: You may have to press the #-key (after dialing the full SIP Broker dialing sequence) with this dial plan piece. However, as long as your VoIP provider is VoXaLot, this dial plan piece should enable you to dial any SIP Broker dialing sequence you wish to use (and then just press the #-key to tell the SPA-3000 you are done dialing).

Generally any domain with a green tick here will work:

SIPBroker - Provider White Pages

as well as ENUM registered numbers.
