Outgoing calls to PSTN with voipbuster issues.

Hi everyone.

I use a Voipbuster account through Voxalot to call PSTN numbers mainly in my own area code (514 Canada). My problem is that I often get enough delay to make the call troublesome to unuseable. I have lots of bandwidth and have no noticable delay when calling between 2 voxalot accounts.

Does going through voxalot and then voipbuster add more delay than just having my ATA register directly with Voipbuster?

Registering directly with voipbuster didn't always improve the quality of the call. I am wondering if it is just because voipbuster is in Europe if the can is then routed through Europe as well. ie. Canada to Europe and back to Canada. Sometimes the call display number given to the person I am calling is from Europe.

Would having a more local Voip provider help? I am thinking of trying out Vbuzzer out of Toronto.

Any suggestions on getting better quality voip to PSTN.

It depends. If your ATA is setup to use STUN then the voice traffic should bypass our proxies.

More then likely yes. Also once our European server goes online (hopefully next week) it might be worth trying to register your ATA against it.

Call quality with Voipbuster to North American PSTN Numbers

I am located in 416 area code (Canada) and have also noticed quite a variable call quality using Voipcheap to North American numbers. Calling European numbers (France, Ireland, UK) usually results in excellent call quality, whether through Voxalot via dial plan routing or directly through IP phone registered with Voipcheap.

I suspect the call quality is related to the PSTN provider's ability to provide gateway termination capability at the time of the call to the area code called. Maybe they switch to a lower BW codec to maximize the use of available BW at the time??

I have used PSTN termination through les.net when I have this problem, with the added advantage that the service allows you to set the outgoing Caller ID info. This is very handy when activating your new replacement credit via the bank's automated service !

Hope this helps. All the best
