Priceless voip service: VraagAlexVoip
Alexander van Dijl, the founder of VraagAlex, started with offering alternative numbers to expensive premium numbers.
With the aim of making phone calls cheaper or even free of charge for anyone, he and his team started their own volunteer and free voip service; VraagAlexVoip. VraagAlexVoip works with any phone you may have, including softphone, SIP-based IP phones, analog landlines (using an ATA), and mobile phones. Like many Internet-based voice services, it is free for on-network calls. Yet the best part: all calls to any regular land-line in The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Denemark, Thailand, USA, Australia, and UK are completely free. And the list of international destinations is still growing. You will find much more information on the VraagAlex websites and VraagAlex Wiki. These pages are in... Dutch :) However, VraagAlex has also information pages in English. Subscribe, get your account details and start calling. Zoe |
En hoe krijg ik vraagalex via voxalot werkend?

How to make VraagAlexVoip work with Voxalot
hamsat commented that he is not able to make VraagAlexVoip work with Voxalot.
The solution for now: When configuring provider settings, please enter the IP-address 85.223.52.35 in the Host field instead of voip.vraagalex.nl and you should be able to make outgoing calls. Zoe |
No free calls for Canadian destinations, only USA ?
|
VraagAlexVoip also offers free calls for Canadian destinations

Then I must be doing something wrong. I registered on the website (I guessed more or less what to write in each box, luckily Dutch slightly resembles English), then I received an email with all the registration details and I registered the account in Voxalot (85.223.52.35 in the Host field). But when I try to call a Canadian number I hear someone speaking in Dutch and that’s it; I don’t understand anything he says. The dialled number was 00+1(country code)+number , is this the correct format?
Also, are the free VOIP calls to Canadian numbers really free, no FUP, no nothing ? |
Hello Corbu',
The Dutch speaking person tells you that "the service is made possible by VraagAlex and if you like the service please consider making a donation....." and to "wait until the call is established". So just wait and you will get your contact on the line. The format 00-1-number is correct. And, I assure you, no hidden costs! Zoe |
Well something is still not right; I can't call Canadian numbers. I wait for the person to speak, at the end I think I hear a Dutch version of "For service and information please stay on the line", then it rings, I wait and in the end the person speaks in Dutch again. But the intended called phone never rings (tried with a landline and a cell phone).
How can I record the message that I hear, maybe you can troubleshoot the problem? Thanks. |
Maybe you can use this application to record the message you hear:
record softphone conversations - download tag - page 1 - Softpedia |
EasyVoipRecorder doesn't work. I get a dialog box saying "The EasyVoiprecorderService is not running now. Would you like to start it now?" I click yes and the dialog box pops up again. Probably it is not compatible with Windows 7 x64.

I just left a visitor message on your profile page, please check

I managed to record by using my cell phone. The quality is not great but I hope it is acceptable.
EDIT: Reuploaded the recording, it was incomplete. |
The account wasn't activated yet; issue's been resolved.

Registration
I apply for registration online 4-5 days ago, now no reply or anything.
|
Please PM me the email address you used to register for an account.
Thanks, Zoe |
support for vraagalex
If you encounter any problems when dialing an international number let me know
what the dialed number is. It might also help to use the GSM codec if you are not in the Netherlands. |
I just had a conversation with my mother using VraagAlexVoip and the quality was very good. I experienced some minor echo at the beginning, but no problems after that. Congratulations !
One other thing > where can I find an updated list of free destinations (I just want to know if calls to Romanian land lines are free)? Thank you. P.S. Is it possible to have the welcome message in English for calls that originate outside Netherlands? |
You can easily translate the website from dutch to English using
Google Translate 1. Choose Dutch to English translation 2. Enter the website address: HomeÂ*-Â*VraagAlex.nl | Het alternatief voor 0900-nummers |
Glad to know that the quality of your phone call was good.
No, VraagAlexVoip doesn't offer free calls to Romanian landlines, yet.. Here's a link to the WIKI page where you'll find a list of free destinations: VraagAlex VOIP - VraagAlex Wiki. As for the welcome message in English: It has Alexander's attention. |
I was just playing yesterday and I tried to put my own caller ID in the “From User” box (right now I put my username) and it didn’t work. It sounded like I got the same message that I recorded above; as soon as I put back my username in the “From User” box everything was back to normal. Is there a way to register my own CID for when I dial out? I am not complaining, so far my experience was positive, it was just a thought.
Thanks. |
still waiting for account activation
Hi Zoemcalister,
I registered at the website for an account and still havent received an email for account activation. I sent you a private message with my userid. |
I just called a landline in Jamaica and it worked although it is not on the free destinations list. :)
|
Starting today when I call a Candian number I get this message:
Quote:
|
There should be no problem anymore.
You can continue making free calls. |
Thank you, it is working now.
But the message at the beginning has changed; can you translate what it means? |
VraagAlexVoip becomes QeleQ
VraagAlexVoip reorganizes its business model.
