VoipBuster / Betamax offering free SMS from mobile
This is not really VoIP news, but VoipBuster is now offering free SMS from your mobile.
It requires you to install a small Java application on your mobile, and after that, you can send free SMS messages using a GPRS data connection, which is usually way cheaper than sending a SMS message using your mobile provider. Here's how: 1) How to install: - On your mobile go to http://gsm.voipbuster.com/ (on some mobiles you need to choose 'download application' on some phones you can just go to the webpage). - download and install the application, start the application (for most mobiles: in the menu, go to applications) - in "settings" fill in your VoipBuster username / password and your mobile phone number 2) How to send SMS: - start the application (for most mobiles: in the menu, go to applications) - go to options --> sms - you can select the person you want to send a sms from your mobile phone contacts through options --> add from contacts - type your message and hit SEND! - your mobile phone will ask you to open a data connection. This uses just a tiny bit of data traffic. - Voipbuster charges you nothing! Yes --> NOTHING! I got this in my e-mail just a few minutes ago. |
If you wish to stay far far away from betamax products Gizmo SMS - Send FREE messages to any Mobile Phone is also free.

Just tried GizmoSMS -- no good, not delivered. I have never been able to get gizmocall.com to work either. The Gizmo softphone works okay though, although I have no reason to use it.....

User error? Worked every time I used it.
|
I tried GizmoSMS too and it did not work for me either.
I got a message from my provider requesting I sign up for Email to SMS service. I already have this feature. So something in their format is definitely different or not correct. Also, GizmoSMS has a limited country set where it allows me to send SMS. |
Also tried it but did not worked..:(
|
Vyke has 2 US cent messages and seems very reliable
|
Of course it doesnt work outside the USA. The site and sms is supported by USA advertising so it makes sense that it would only work in the USA. Much like Hulu. People expect it is some sort of right that they should have to view Hulu outside the USA when no one wants to advertise to those people outside the USA and they would never buy anything anyway.
