Phone rings unexpectedly even with voicemail on
It's been only twice this month, but it has been quite disturbing. The thing is that last week our phone kept ringing at 2AM. The caller ID was not shown and when we picked up the phone, nobody answered. At that time the voicemail was off.
I decided to setup a voicemail forwarding rule from 0:00 to 7:00AM. I tested it and it seemed to be working fine. Today, at 4:00AM, the phone started ringing again even with the voicemail rule on. Since every time we hanged, the phone started ringing again, I decided to disconnect the phone until it was really the time to wake up. Is this a known problem? It has never happened to me before, so I am puzzled. Should I disconnect the phone line every time I go to sleep? It is quite ennoying to remember to do that every day... By the way, I am in Spain and connected to the European server. |
Are you sure it is not your ATA / phones MWI (message waiting indicator)?
|
Well, it only has happened twice and at those times. Unless there's an obscure setting I haven't yet found I do not think it is a phone/ATA problem.
By the way, I have a DLink DVG-G1402S |
Two suggestions:
1. Make sure the time Based VM rule is an ANY rule.... 2. Any chance you've signed up for ENum through e164.org and have VoXalot as your SIP destination? e164 tends to run a test once in a while to confirm that the SIP URI is still valid... |
Thanks for the suggestions. I have the Call Connection Rule set to match by "Any inbound number or provider".
Regarding the second suggestion, I have not signed up for Enum through 164.org, unless Voxalot does it automatically. Still, any call should be redirected to the voice mail, according to the rule, shouldn't it? |

1. No VoXalot does not do any automatic signups on e164
2. The only other thing I can think of, is these settings about MWI.....they look as follows on my PAP2, see if you can find something similar in the DLink: |
Thanks. I cannot find a similar parameter in my configuration. When I telnet the device I have more options available, but none of them look like "Voice Mail" or similar. Here's my configuration:

It happened again on Monday (I forgot to disconnect the phone) and yesterday at 1AM. Any thoughts?
As I said, it has never happened before and it is really weird that now it happens and only at those strange times... |
This is really weird... the same thing is happening to me (and I'm on the other side of the world)...
Recently we have been having a series of 'phantom calls' during the night (between midnight and 4am) – these calls show no Caller ID or in fact, that there is no incoming call happening... even overseas calls generally show 'incoming' call on the telephone - Uniden fp106 – if there is a call with caller ID etc, (when you check the Uniden phone log for missed calls, it doesn't even show that these calls came in... that's weird!) – the phones ring... I pick it up, there is nothing there, no dial tone or noise – (no heavy breathing either !), I hang up, and then it rings again within the minute. After a few times of this, and my wife is getting angry, I take it off the hook, or unplug the Minitar ata, so we can go back to sleep. The Minitar is registered with WDP and MNF. It really does not seem like people are calling us during the night – eventually they would get through to us, I'm sure. The other VOIP phone we have is using VOXALOT and uses MNF, ENGIN & PENNYTEL ( and yes our primary telephone number is registered with E.164) and this may be the link with all of this - Is something going wrong there ? Anyone got any suggestions for this (I'm already thinking of unplugging ATA/Phones after 9pm) just thought I'd share what's happening as it sounds very familiar thanks David |
Just a thought (perhaps noted already), do you have the appropriate time-zone selected in your log-in member details page?
